John E. Johnson is an Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology and Leadership at Western Seminary, Portland, Oregon. The author has a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, with an emphasis in Systematic Theology. This has prepared him for both the classroom and the church. He has pastored in a rough part of Portland for ten years, led a multicultural congregation of (mainly) business professionals in Europe for seven years, and led a multicultural church of approximately 1,800 on the west side of Portland. The author has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, teaching at various seminaries and schools. He has also authored Life Under an Open Heaven (published in February 2017 by Kregel), as well as written journal articles for Bibliotheca Sacra and Trinity Journal. He writes a weekly blog on issues that spin out of his reading and ministry, as well as presents papers at the Evangelical Theological Society. He lives with his wife Heather in Portland, Oregon, spending a fair amount of time kayaking on the Pend Oreille River in NE Washington.
